Early sexual trauma has a significant impact on the way an individual experiences life. Having been a therapist at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton and running survivor groups at Student Counselling Services at the University of Alberta, I am aware of the many ways early trauma and adult sexual trauma can create problems with self-esteem, intimacy, sexuality, recognizing and addressing emotions, self-care, boundaries, and thinking patterns. Perhaps the greatest impact of trauma is the way it can affect a person’s basic trust in the world, in oneself and in other people.
In therapy, I provide tools, strategies and resources to help the survivor negotiate the healing process. I trust in the survivor’s innate ability to heal.
