It is estimated that 1 in 10 people struggle with some kind of anxiety issue. So if you are experiencing anxiety symptoms, you are in good company. Generally speaking, people with anxiety-related problems share a number of personality styles. They tend to be creative, determined, and competent with high expectations of themselves. These individuals tend to suppress difficult feelings and may ignore their physical needs.
Some anxious people worry that if they look for ways to decrease their anxiety, they will no longer be effective, hard working and accountable. In therapy, I help individuals learn how to maintain their positive values without high levels of anxiety. Therapy involves addressing a person’s beliefs and assumptions around their basic value system. Often it is a person’s beliefs and assumptions, rather than their positive values, that are causing their anxiety. In therapy, I use techniques that address distorted thinking patterns, promote good self-care and help create and maintain good internal and external boundaries.
